Buy everything from cars to lumber at GovDeals
Want to buy a fire truck? There are several for sale at GovDeals.
It seems every day more services make their way onto the Internet, and GovDeals is yet another example of that. Nowadays you can do anything from play Scrabble with a friend to get a no fax payday loan online, and on GovDeals you can bid on surplus and confiscated items from government agencies.
I was pretty surprised at the type of stuff that’s available at GovDeals. There are all-terrain vehicles and beauty supplies for sale. You can buy boats, books and bicycles. If you can’t tell, that’s just the beginning.
Ebay meets impound
I was pretty surprised to see most of the stuff available at GovDeals. One category is “Animals and Animal Equipment.” Right now there are no animals for sale, just your usual collection of dog kennels and equipment — and a saddle. Who knew? Anyone in the market for a saddle can head to GovDeals, where there’s one right now that’s gotten up to $202.
The GovDeals web site conducts good, old-fashioned government auctions, just like the ones people talk about where you can buy brand new cars for $500. Of course, we all know that’s not exactly accurate, but it does contain some truth. GovDeals works like Ebay, using online bidding, and a government auction, where you can get great stuff for cheap if you’re in the right place at the right time. Of course, the Internet is a pretty big place, so chances are a lot more people will be there.
Big ticket items
Of course, you can still find great deals at GovDeals, and even you can buy stuff through online auction that isn’t available elsewhere. For instance, there are 8 buildings for sale at GovDeals right now. Most of them are mobile homes, besides the drivers ed simulator trailer. The catch is that most of the homes need to be moved.
However, bidding on those mobile homes starts at just $250, and most of them don’t have any bidders yet. Anyone who has the means to move a mobile home could make some great money reselling those homes after they move them. In fact, with prices like that, someone could even help out low income families by selling or renting them for very low rates and still make a great profit.
Don’t forget the small stuff
Of course, if you’re not an aspiring real estate developer, there are tons of useful items. GovDeals is choc full of kitchen equipment, clothing, garbage containers (yes, there’s a whole section for garbage containers), hardware, jewelry, sporting equipment and office equipment.
There’s a “utility cart” (I saw the picture, it’s a wagon) with a starting bid of $10. There are iMacs for sale, starting at $156. I know some technofiles who would freak over that. There is also medical equipment for sale, which could be a great help for hospitals and other parts of the health care industry.
